Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction
Also known as ACL reconstruction, this is a procedure that helps in the replacement of the anterior cruciate ligament with the help of surgical tissue grafts. This procedure is conducted on the knee and helps to reconstruct the torn ligaments trough an arthroscopic procedure. The ACL reconstruction is recommended to people who have a bad injury that has caused a tear in the ligament. In terms of a non-contact tear, it can be caused due to a bad landing while jumping which can affect the mobility of the knee.
The replacement materials that are used in ACL reconstruction can vary from taking out a tissue or bone from the patient’s body AKA Autografts, taking a tissue or bone from somebody else’s body AKA Allografts or the latest technique which is called as the BEAR procedure or the Bridge enhanced ACL repair where in a sponge is filled with the help of the patients’ blood to help in the reconnection and stimulation healing of the ACL.
