Medical Visa Formalities in India

Indian government grants medical visas to those seeking medical treatments in reputed/recognized/specialized hospitals or medical centers in India.

Filling up the form

You should fill up the application form ONLINE. Handwritten forms or those filled up after downloading will not be accepted.

Your name and other relevant details filled in the form should match with your passport information. Incomplete and illegible forms will not be accepted for processing.

After filling the form, take a print out and sign the application. The print outs should be in separate sheets and not printed on the front and back side of the same sheet.

Citizens of specific countries may need to fill up additional forms.

Medical Visa Validity

The validity of medical visa is 1 year or the period of treatment, whichever is less. The visa will allow maximum 3 entries within a year.

The duration of visa starts from the day of issuance and NOT from the day of entry to India.

Maximum two persons, having blood relation with the patient, will be allowed to accompany the patient under a separate Medical Attendant Visa.

Payment of Visa Fees

The amount of fee varies depending on the type of visa and duration of stay. This may also depend on the citizenship of the country.Payment of visa fee can be done either through money order or credit card (Visa or Master card/other credit cards not accepted). Payment is charged only after the receipt of actual application. The payment option should be selected only while completing a visa application.

Do not make any payment/appointment before taking the print out of the form.Money orders are available from local post office and can be procured easily.

Passport Requirement

You need to have a valid passport whose validity must be minimum 6 months. It must have at least two bank pages available for Indian Visa stamps.

Other documents required

Original passport along with copy of the passport (copies of the 1^st page and the last page having your details)
Valid address proof like driver’s license, recent water and utility bills, valid lease signed by the tenant and landlord. University students staying in university accommodation or college campus must submit a letter from the institution specifying the current residential address.
One recent 2X2 passport size colored photo with plain light/white background. No glasses to be worn. Some nationals may require more than one photo. This would be mentioned in the application form.
In case of minors, a copy of minor’s birth certificate and a copy of both parent’s signed passports are required. Other documents may be required depending on the country of origin of the minor and his/her parents’ nationality.

Medical documentation requirement

Documented medical advice from the origin country specifying the need for specialized treatment.
The candidate’s preference to seek treatment in India is also considered.

Form submission

Submit the duly filled visa application form and all required documents to the concerned Indian Mission/outsourcing authorized agent as per the scheduled appointment date (selected during filling the form and making payment).

You will be given an application ID by which you can track the status of your visa. The processing time varies from 3-5 days to 1-2 weeks.
