EGD – Esophagogastroduode
The Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) procedure help to examine areas like the upper duodenum, stomach or even the inner lining of the swallowing tube. A Gastroenterologist performs this procedure using an endoscope. The EGD is performed when there is any abnormality or inflammation of the duodenum, stomach or esophagus
- In case of doubt, a biopsy may be conducted to take a tissue sample
- To understand where and why there is an internal bleeding
- To understand how well the gastric ulcers are healing
- Evaluating the reason behind symptoms like sudden weight loss, unexplained anemia, heart burn, vomiting or nausea and even abdominal pain for no reason.
