Liver Transplant
Liver transplant is a surgical procedure which helps to remove a diseased liver and replace it with a healthy liver from a donor. In adults the most common reason for a liver transplant is cirrhosis which is a condition where in the healthy cells of the liver are replaced and killed with a scar tissue.
In case of children it could be due to biliary atresia which is a disease in which the ducts that carry bile out of the liver are missing or damaged. The transplant of the liver is recommended when the disease has reached the most advanced stage and there is no other option but to replace it.
